ROSALINDA'S ACAPULCO

The Bay of Acapulco, called "La Bahía de Santa Lucía",  is also known as the
Pearl of the Pacific. With the Pacific ocean on the south and the Sierra Madre del
Sur towering right behind, it is 3 miles from north to south, with depth from 45 feet to
180 feet and it has a lush tropical island called Roqueta at its mouth.

There are also two beautiful fresh water lagoons.  Coyuca,  in Pie de la Cuesta and
Tres Palos, which is at least twice the size of Acapulco Bay, near the airport.

The weather is hot and fairly humid with typical temperatures from 72 (night) to 87 degrees from November to April, although a constant breeze makes it comfortable.
During the winter season,  it virtually never rains, and  the rainy season runs from
June to October,  though it is still sunny during the day because the rain mostly
occurs in the late afternoon or night.

The population of Acapulco is now around 2 million.

GENERAL INFORMATION

CURRENCY- The official unit of currency is the Peso.  The current exchange rate
is between 9 and 10  pesos per US dollar and fluctuates daily. Currency can be
exchanged at the airport, “Casas de Cambio” and banks (usually banks give
slightly better rates, and are open from 9am to 5PM). Many restaurants and shops
also accept dollar traveler’s checks and major credit cards but set the exchange
rates they will accept themselves.

TIPS & INFORMATION

CALLING THE US ~  Please be aware that calling the US directly from your hotel can
be very expensive.  The cheapest way is to use a pay phone with a calling card, which
you can purchase at many hotels and shops, including Sanborn's.  If you want to call
collect from the hotel they will charge you US $4.

AIRPORT ~  Some options to get from the airport to town:   you can hire a private
taxi that costs around 30US for 4 people or 35US for a Suburban for 7or 8 people
or take the shuttle that is 7.50 per person. To go to the airport
from your hotel is $13US. per cab for 4 or maybe 5 people.

BEACHES ~ the beach in front of LaPalapa, called  Playa Icacos is a safe and excellent beach for swimming at most times.  However, the beaches in the center of
the bay can be dangerous for poor swimmers during periods of very high tides.

Pie de la Cuesta  beach is a beautiful beach to spend the day and walk and
famous for its sunsets, but is dangerous for swimming. A nice small hotel to spend the
day is Vayma. It is located right next door to the more famous Tres Marias that also
has good food.  A trip to Pie de la Cuesta will take you 35 minutes more or less
depending on the traffic.

Playa Revolcadero where the Princess Hotel is. It is another beautiful
beach, great for walking or jogging. There are little cabanas where you can have
lunch.  The pescado a la talla, usually red snapper on the grill marinated with a
slightly spicy sauce is real good, or you can order the picaditas, as an entrée.

Hornos beach toward the other side of the bay has very calm surf; good for
children, a lot of locals go there. (Watch your belongings)

NIGHT CLUBS ~ Compared to Acapulco, the rest of the world is asleep!  The
nightlife here will amaze you with its wild and glamorous party atmosphere.
There are so many discos that it would be difficult to name them all.
Palladium a huge disco with a beautiful view of the bay is mostly for
younger crowds.  Also for the youngest is   Alebrije

High on the hill of Las Brisas is Enigma discothèque and its famous bar
Siboney with a very nice view of the bay.
Baby’O has been the number one disco for many years,
a favorite place for locals and Mexico City people.
Zucca  close to Enigma and similar but much smaller, has just been remodeled
and has a great view also; on Thursdays they have the singles night.
Andromedas at walking distance from LaPalapa.

TIPPING ~ The usual tip in Acapulco is 15%; however, keep in mind that some
resorts and hotels automatically add a service charge, so you should check your bill
before tipping. There is also a 15% value-added tax (IVA) that is normally included in
the charge, but it is worthwhile to check so as not to confuse the two.

SHOPPING ~  Shops line the main streets of Acapulco, including everything from well-known designers to small markets featuring handmade souvenirs.  Bargaining
is acceptable in almost all locations, especially for jewelry. There are two malls
Plaza Bahía and La Gran Plaza.
Wal-Mart is 3 blocks from LaPalapa and is open 24 hours. Inside you will also
find a bank, McDonald’s, and  Baskin Robbins among other things.

BINGO ~ If you want to dare the Goddess of Fortune, there is bingo at the
JAI ALAI  located next to the Wal-Mart, every night starting at 6 PM. Children
under 18 are not allowed.

GETTING AROUND ~  many of the places you will wish to visit during your stay in Acapulco are within walking distance from your hotel. Buses run along the Costera
(main Avenue) for 3 pesos as well as taxicabs.  The rates for taxis are negotiable, so always remember to agree on a price with the driver before getting into the cab.
The taxis at the hotel are 50% more expensive than on the street.

WATER SPORTS ~ Parasailing, jet skiing, snorkeling, skiing, and scuba diving are
all very popular.  CLICK HERE FOR PRICES
Acapulco is a great place for deep-sea fishing.  The catches are mainly
sailfish, marlin, dorado (mahi-mahi), yellow fin tuna and sharks.
For Fishing try  BLUE WATER SPORTFISHING

ELECTRICAL POWER  ~  110 volts/50 cycle is standard.  US Blow dryers and
travel irons will work.  However,  frequently Mexican plugs are not polarized
(large and small inserts) so an adaptor may be necessary for the plug.

ROOM SERVICE ~  Even if you are in our private condos you can order room
service from the hotel.

If you want to order  pizza these are good and not expensive:
PIZZA REAL Tel: 481 18 62 or DOMINO’S PIZZA  Tel: 481 00 44

For sushi call  SAN & TOWN  Tel: 484 01 33 from 2:00 to 11:00 pm
or
SUSHITO  Tel: 484 74 25-484 71 88.
